Styling a Monochrome Palette
There are few interior schemes more classic and adaptable than monochrome. Inherently elegant, this timeless look creates a calm and cohesive appearance that works in almost any home, from traditional to contemporary, with a tonal ombre effect that can be both moody and sophisticated or soothing and subtle.
Featuring: Flocca Linen Duvet in Fog, Flocca Linen Flat Sheet in Ayrton, Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Tempest and Flocca European Pilowcases in Roy. While styling a monochrome scheme may seem simple, the use of similar hues across floors, walls, soft furnishings and decor can easily come across as stark, cold or otherwise inviting when the space is lacking in texture, natural materials, and thoughtful details that imbue warmth and elevate the look with hints of understated luxury.
The key to mastering monochrome lies in layering, starting with a base colour on the walls which can then be complemented by soft furnishings to enhance your palette. Layering textures can prevent the space from looking flat, while accent pieces such as lighting, mirrors, plaster features and unique furniture can also help to lift a neutral, monochrome scheme.
Featuring: Flocca Linen Duvet in Petra, Flocca Linen Flat Sheet in Sable and Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Petra and Sable. In the stunning Armadale home of architect Rob Mills, elegant and uninterrupted spaces have been achieved by emphasising subtle colour changes and luxurious materials and finishes. In the bedroom, our Flocca Linen Duvet in Nox and Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Nox and Sable lend tactile beauty and warmth, with delicately hand-tufted edges and a subtle melange softening a contemporary interior space.
Featuring: Flocca Linen Duvet in Nox and Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Sable in Nox. A characteristic of monochrome interiors is a sense of simplicity, with natural materials – from cool marble to warm and textural linen – adding interest and balance without being overpowering. Carrying a similar colour palette throughout a room creates the perfect backdrop for standout pieces such as a unique side table or much-loved vase to be showcased, while pure linen bedding offers the perfect opportunity to build tonal layers that bring a sumptuous, lived-in quality to a modern monochrome look.

Our new pure linen bedding look, Nestled in Nature, welcomes the shifting of seasons, with comforting layers to cocoon you in luxurious softness and texture on crisp autumn evenings and misty winter mornings. Mediterranean Style
The Mediterranean has long had an influence on the world of design, and it’s easy to see why. Synonymous with the good life, the region evokes leisurely days filled with sun and sea, a place rich in history, culture and tradition, and with a glorious climate that lends itself to a relaxed outdoor lifestyle. Rooted in centuries of life along one of the world’s most captivating coastlines, this look has classic appeal yet can be easily adapted in more contemporary ways.
Via @ad_magazine,Santorini, Greece. Photography @niallkelly18
Homes in the Mediterranean are designed to complement their surroundings, with locally sourced stone and terracotta alongside woven baskets and handmade ceramics. A strong sense of craftsmanship pervades, and the overall sentiment is one of unhurriedness and embracing a slower pace. These homes are made to be lived in, with a focus on open, light-filled spaces, natural materials, and a connection to the outdoors.
Thankfully, channelling the carefree feeling of a summer vacation at home doesn't require an Italian villa or a Balearic island getaway. Architectural features aside, the essence of Mediterranean design has some key characteristics that are easy to achieve and work in almost any location, starting with a fresh, light palette. White-washed walls, stone, timber and render coupled with soft curves and organic shapes create a blank canvas to layer raw, tactile materials – clay, linen, rattan and terracotta – that imbue a handmade quality and fuse modern with traditional.

Finding a balance so that the look that doesn’t appear ‘themed’ means blending old with new, boho with minimalism. As the Mediterranean is such an eclectic mix of countries and cultures, an eclectic approach to design is key, allowing freedom to adapt this style to suit your interior scheme. There is a focus on pieces that combine functionality with beauty, making spaces highly liveable in a day-to-day environment while offering small moments of pleasure through pieces that elevate everyday routines. In the luxurious, light-filled bathroom of Byron Beach Abodes, the classic dense waffle design of our Flocca Linen Bath Towels add textural appeal and warm contrast to a smooth, white palette reminiscent of classic Mediterranean style. Our pure linen towels make an easy addition to a Mediterranean-inspired scheme, with their breathability, absorbency and fast-drying properties ideal for warmer climates. Our Basix Linen Curtains, alongside a rain shower and freestanding bathtub, further add to the feeling of stepping into a spa-like sanctuary.

The influence of the Mediterranean can also be seen in the effortlessly elegant home of celebrity fashion stylist Dani Michelle, whose clients include the Kardashians. Enlisting the help of high-profile designer Leanne Ford, this Los Angeles retreat has been transformed into a Mediterranean-inspired oasis that exudes barefoot glamour. The open living and dining area features exposed timber beams and white sanded grout swathed on stone walls, while vintage accents sit beside modern artifacts.

In the bedroom, large windows dressed with sheer curtains allow natural light to pour in. Our Flocca Linen Blanket in light and sandy Sable is layered over our pure linen bedding in Ayrton, a classic antique white, as black accents including framed vintage artwork introduce a contemporary element that makes the space feel timeless and modern. Our pure linen bedding works beautifully in warmer climates, whether it be the Mediterranean, California or Australia, lending a soft and dry yet sumptuously textural feeling to your bedroom.

Interior Trend - A Modern Approach to Wainscoting
Originally used in heritage homes to protect walls from being damaged by furniture as well as add an extra layer of insulation, today wainscoting has taken on a more decorative purpose. Found everywhere from coastal cottages to minimalist apartments, this technique of using paneled boards to clad walls is making a modern comeback with refined interpretations and contemporary materials.
Example of traditional wainscoting enhanced design by @georgina_jeffries Wainscoting involves a portion of an internal wall being clad with panels, adding a decorative element to a pared-back space or highlighting a home's traditional features. This versatile trend can be adapted to suit just about any design scheme, from country to beachy and everything in between, and has been very popular as a modern adaption of a headboard with the lower portion of the wall featuring statement-making paneling detail.

Classic Californian Style
An effortless blend of coastal, cottage and contemporary with mid-century accents, it’s no surprise that classic Californian style is an enduring favorite. Combining modern and traditional design with an undone elegance, this timeless look is characterized by rich texture, calming neutrals and natural materials, drawing inspiration from the culture, architecture and lifestyle of the West Coast to create a unique and adaptable aesthetic that exudes comfort, personality and heritage.
Many hallmarks of classic Californian style as we know it today arose from the Mission Revival Style of the late 19th century, which mimicked the Spanish missions built a century earlier. Harking back to simpler times, the white stucco walls, clay tile roofs, large, curved windows and sun-drenched patios became a significant inspiration for Californian architecture long after, with ornamental detailing largely eschewed for clean lines and solid, exposed rafters.
1936 Spanish Mission style Sydney home by architect Allan Edgecliff Stafford revamped by Studio Kate.
When the Art Deco movement began to flourish in the 1920s, decorative accents became more prevalent – rich, bold color and lush texture – which were later tempered by the subtle restraint of mid-century modernist design and its emphasis on function. The result was a backdrop centred on organic shapes, natural materials and rich tactility that set the mood for unique yet timeless furnishings – from eclectic vintage finds to handcrafted statement pieces – that tell a story.

A hybrid of several popular styles, classic Californian style is highly versatile and lends itself to contemporary, light-filled spaces as much as a bold, moody bungalow of blues and greens, as observed in this decadent yet lived-in Ojai residence. Designer by Nickey Kehoe balances plush and playful while maintaining a traditional edge, featuring our Flocca Linen Duvet in Carmel in the bedroom to imbue warmth to earthy greens and greys. Complete the look with Brun, Nox and Mare to create a sumptuous sleep haven at home, while benefiting from the softness, breathability and year-round comfort of pure linen bedding.
Featuring: Flocca Linen Duvet in Carmel. The traditional elements of classic Californian style reference a cottage look synonymous with tranquil beach houses dotted along the west coast, a wholesome, handcrafted approach that surged in popularity during the pandemic. More time spent at home saw a shift away from wild patterns and bold trends and a move towards comforting, classic interiors that evoke a sense of connection to people and place, with a high/low mix of antiques, mid-century statement pieces and modern luxuries achieving a worldly yet cosy feel.
Featuring: Flocca Linen body cushion and Flocca Linen pillowcases in Floss. This contemporary retreat by interior designer Vanessa Alexander exudes classic Californian style with a strong cottage influence, from the fresh white palette to the thoughtful blend of vintage and modern furnishings. In the sun-dappled bedroom, a feminine, earthy scheme creates the perfect balance of lightness and texture, with our Flocca Linen Body Pillow featured in Floss. The hand-tufted edges of our Flocca range are a nod to a traditional cottage style, their understated detail offering a handcrafted accent that delights in its simplicity. Complete the look with soothing Petra and our warming Basix Stripe Linen pillowcase in Carmel/Tempest.
Featuring: Flocca Linen Blanket in Sable. This stunning space by Amber Interiors ticks all the boxes when it comes to quintessential Californian style – calming, neutral hues enriched with texture, coupled with a thoughtful curation of statement pieces and timeless accents that blur the lines between modern and traditional. Our Flocca Linen Blanket in light and sandy Sable is the ideal accompaniment to this elegant bedroom, with tan leather, timber and ceramics adding further layers of textural interest. Life/Style Migration
It is likely you've heard about friends, family or colleagues making a 'tree change' or 'sea change' in recent years, or perhaps you’ve even made one yourself. During the pandemic, Australia – and indeed the world – has seen a great shift from urban to rural living, with many people deserting city centers in favor of smaller country and coastal villages. This regional relocation is not only satisfying a desire for a simpler life, but it has also inspired a renewed approach to style and design centered around an appreciation for small everyday pleasures.
A collective craving for a slower pace has brought about both a geographical and cultural shift, with those moving away from cities seeing themselves and their homes from a fresh perspective. Travelling from cosmopolitan capitals to the countryside or coast, these tree- and sea-changers are bringing with them their contemporary sensibilities and leaving behind the hurriedness of modern life, creating space to discover what feels meaningful and authentic.

Heightened regard for all things slow is seeing us increasingly wanting to surround ourselves with handmade, high-quality pieces – from interiors to fashion – that tell a story, are classic in their design and are made to last. Spending more time at home than ever before, it has become paramount that we create a space that satisfies an innate need for connection to each other, and to the natural world. Artisan skills are seeing a resurgence, with ceramics and basket weaving popular examples of how traditional handicrafts can bring both beauty and functionality to our living spaces. While a rural reset in itself can be beneficial to our well-being, there is also a strong tendency toward nature-inspired design, where colors, shapes and materials are chosen – either intentionally or subconsciously – for their ability to evoke the same soothing and restorative effects of being in the outdoors. Our signature range of pure lining bedding in muted, earthy tones is the perfect way to bring nature’s palette into your home, from the mushroom-hued Cep and forest-green Silva to our grounding pinks and tranquil blues. Accents of oceanic Mare, chocolate-hued Bere, and our muted mulberry tone Moro are ideal for imbuing warmth to our core neutral palette and reflecting rich outdoor tones.

This central Victorian residence by Melbourne-based Flack Studio exudes history and romance, with age expressed through patina and moody spaces offering an inviting escape. As featured in The Local Project, the designers worked on the rural 19th-century homestead alongside Eckersley Garden Architecture, known for their traditional and European influence, to create a home immersed in its rural landscape. In the bedroom, our Flocca Linen Blanket in soothing, pale grey Fog is the perfect complement to moody, nature-inspired hues, adding a further layer of textural richness.
Featuring: Flocca Linen Blanket in Fog.Our Flocca Linen Blanket in mid-charcoal Tempest proved a perfect addition to the master bedroom of this chic, Parisian-inspired house in the heart of Melbourne, which has been transformed by Nicholas Murray Architects into a contemporary, light-filled home that evokes classic European style befitting its tree-lined boulevard location. The laidback luxury of our linen blanket fits with the owner’s desire for a balance of vintage and modern, who worked closely with interior decorator Simone Haag to curate a look of restrained elegance.
